Mother Lode Five Day Expedition Race Mandatory Equipment:

Full Time Individual

Bib (supplied by Gold Rush)
Headlight
Eye protection (Day and night).
Wind and water resistant jacket.
Fleece
Whistle,
Lighter,
Space blanket.
Minimum 3L of water carrying capacity per person.

Full Time Team

Passport (Supplied by Gold Rush)Waterproof pouch for Passport
Map (Supplied by Gold Rush)
Waterproof map bag (Recommend Waterproof HP map case from ARNavSupplies.com)
Spot satellite tracking device.(Supplied by Gold Rush)
Medical kit (See minimum and suggested medical kits below)
Knife (one that can actually cut things, there may be a test)
2 Compasses
Digital camera (Not a phone)
Cell phone [Verizon has best coverage. Sprint (Nextel) has worst.] for emergency use only. (to be sealed by Gold Rush)
Family band radio(to be sealed by Gold Rush).
Pepper Spray (small - 0.4 oz minimum)
Rope. 25’ of at least 5mm.

Bike section (per person)

Helmet (approved bicycle helmet)
Reflective tape on rear of helmet.
Forward facing white light (Headlight acceptable)
Flashing taillight
Spare tube.

Bike Section Team:

2 Spare front lights + method of attachment to all bike or helmets.
2 Spare tail lights + method of attachment to all bikes or helmets.
(The spare lights must be available for use by any  of the team and must be able to be affixed to bike or rider such that they operate correctly in place of a broken light)

Tire pump
Tool kit. (See minimum and suggested toolkits)

Boat section (per person)

***Gold Rush Adventures will be suppling tandem kayaks for all teams. Boats will be dropped off and picked up at the paddling section making this VERY convenient for all teams especially out of state and international teams. Teams will still provide their own PFD's and paddles.***PFD (Lifejacket)
Whistle, attached to PFD.
Flashing light, attached to PFD (waterproof).
Headlight (waterproof)
Reflective tape on paddles. 6" x 1" minimum on paddle blades. Red on Back, White on Front.

Boat section (per team)

2 glow sticks per boat.(supplied by Gold Rush)

 

Climbing Section (per person)

Helmet. Approved climbing helmet.
Harness.
3 locking carabiners.
3 tethers.
Rappell device. (ATC  or figure 8)
Prussic
Jumars - one pair with correct length tethers and foot loops.
Gloves
(Note: A total of at least 3 tethers is required. If you re-rig between ascents and descents, 3 tethers will work, If you prefer not to have to re-rig between ascents and descents then you will need at least 4 tethers and possibly 5. )

Teams will also need:

One mountain bike per person

Prohibited Equipment.

Phone, excepting the  phone sealed by Gold Rush.
Communication devices excepting the radio sealed by Gold Rush.
Maps other than those provided by Gold Rush. Including use of such maps at ACP’s . Crews may have road maps available but teams may not refer to them.
Sails or Kites during the paddling sections.
GPS devices including wrist styles. Trackstick or similar devices that cannot be read in the field are OK.

 

Minimum Medical kit:  

  • sunscreen.
  • lip balm with sun protection. SPF 15 minimum. 
  • Electrolyte replacement tabs ( at least 4 per team member each day, suggest "nuun")
  • Analgesic tablets (at least 2 per team member per day)
  • Antihistamine tablets (2 per team member)  
  • Sterile 3' x 3" or 4" x 4" dressing (4 minimum)
  • Blister dressing (enough to supply 2 teammates each day, explain how you plan to use it)
  • Needle 
  • Tweezers
  • Scissors or blade

 Additional Suggested Medical Kit Items; 

Antacid tablets
Decongestant tablets 

 

Minimum Bike Tool kit: 

multi-tool with phillips and flat head screw drivers, allen wrench set
two tire levers
pump
one inner tube per team member
inner tube patch kit, 4 patches

 

Suggested Bike Tool Kit; 

chain repair tool
chain repair link (one for each type of chain on team's bikes)
extra rear derailer or "singulator"
more extra inner tubes
extra bike tires
spare chain
spare cables
spare seat (especially if yours is super light)

Note: Make sure your brakes are in top condition prior to the start of the race.

 

Recommended:

Gloves for protection against brush.
Long pants for protection against brush.
Warm clothes - in case of bad weather. Temperatures in places on the course could reach freezing
Hiking poles, 
Water purification tablets or filter system.
Paddling clothing for paddling section. Dry top, wetsuit or Drysuit optional.
'Tecnu Extreme' for poison oak.





Summer Challenge 6 hour Race Mandatory Equipment:

PROVISIONAL

Individual

Maps. Maps will be provided.

Boat section (per person)
PFD (Lifejacket)

Teams will also need:
One mountain bike per person and a boat or boats.

Recommended:
Gloves for protection against brush.
Puncture repair and bike tool kit.

 


Gold Rush Orienteering events:

During our orienteering events, we usually require very little equipment. Suggested gear is as follows:

Individual
Light (headlight recommended)
Eye protection (Day and Night)
Whistle.
Water carrying capacity.
Layered clothing.
Sturdy footwear. Trail shoes rather than road running shoes are suggested.

Team
Maps. (Usually provided by us)
Cell phone [Verizon has best coverage. Sprint (Nextel) has worst.] for emergency use only. This will be sealed.
Compass
First aid kit (Recommend Adventure Medical Kit Ultra Light 3 and ZombieRunner pocket foot care kit from Zombierunner.com)

If a bike section is involved, healmets will be required.
If a water section is involved, PFD's will be required.

Adventure Racing World Series

Gold Rush Mother Lode is excited to be a part of the 2012  Adventure Racing World Series, and along with 'Untamed New England' one of only two qualifiers on American soil for 2012. Teams will be competing for a paid entry to the AR World Championships to be held in France, as well as a guaranteed (unpaid) entry. The AR World Series is an international circuit of the world's best adventure races and culminates annually in the Adventure Racing World Championship.
