The Mother Lode
Miners in the California gold rush, the famous 49'ers , found gold specks and small nuggets in the streams and rivers of the Sierra foothills. While they were pleased at these finds and went to great lengths to dig out the sand and gravel of the stream beds, they would retire at night and dream of finding the vein , or Lode, of gold that was the source of the ore. Somewhere, high in the hills should be that big vein of gold that had been eroded and swept downstream to form the small flecks and deposits found in the streams. That big vein of gold was the stuff of their dreams. That 'Mother Lode' would make the current finds pale in comparison.
